Caterpillars versus Tomatoes

Even though I applied BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) earlier this month the caterpillars have been back with a vengeance through the middle to end of May. It looks like I need to be applying BT more frequently. I do try to pick off and squish the ones I can see, but these have been difficult to see until they have done a lot of damage. Next season I need to be on a regular schedule of applying BT about once a week so that the Tomato Fruitworms do not cause so much damage.

The only good news is that I planted so many Tomatoes this year that I still have a good amount of Tomatoes that I have been able to harvest with no damage. I will do another post soon to show a summary of the Tomatoes that did survive.

Peppers Harvest

Harvested my first peppers of the season. These are one of my favorite things to grow in Florida since I normally do not have any bug or disease problems with them.

Some fresh produce and some caterpillars

Harvested another nice fresh cucumber that was just perfect. Also harvested some red and green Romain. And found a couple of Gold Rush Squash that was bug free. I still have a lot of lettuce left that is bolting that I need to pick soon.

Unfortunately I am still finding caterpillar damage to about half of the squash. BT seems to help but the caterpillars continue their damage.

progress on late Spring seedlings

The additional seedlings I started a few weeks ago were past due to planting in larger pots.
The cherry tomatoes did not want to germinate, but everything else did great.

planted the cherry tomatoes deep

I started some additional early summer garden seeds.

Also had a nice harvest.

large Spaghetti Squash, Mustard Greens, Red Leaf Lettuce, and Cucumber
I noticed while harvesting the cucumber that some of the cucumber vines looked like they might be suffering from a nitrogen deficiency. I do not see any bugs on the vines. I added some bone meal.
